He Is The One

Sir Alex Ferguson's Chasing Red Erik
13 November 2011

SIR ALEX FERGUSON has pin-pointed Ajax teenage midfield sensation Christian Eriksen as Manchester United’s top transfer target. But Barcelona are also keen on talented Eriksen, 19.

Manchester United  have put Ajax’s teenage midfield ace Christian Eriksen at the top of their wanted list.United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is willing to spend more than £20million on the Denmark star, 19, who is said to be a target for Barcelona, Man City and Chelsea.

Eriksen has been named the Dutch Talent of the Year and Danish Player of the Year already in 2011, after a breakthrough season with Ajax. Dutch legend Johan Cruyff, still a hero at Ajax, describes him as a player ‘I like with all my heart’. And Fergie sees him as the ideal replacement for Paul Scholes.

A source in Scandinavia said: “United are hot on him. Trust me, they want him and £20m is the price being bandied around.

“Yet ironically both Chelsea and Spurs turned him down several years ago because they thought he was too small.

"He has since turned into a world-class player."

Eriksen had trials with Chelsea when Frank Arnesen was director of football. And Spurs rejected the chance to sign him as they didn’t think he was big enough. But he has since developed into the mould of Cesc Fabregas and Luka Modric. At last year’s World Cup, Eriksen was the youngest player in the tournament, featuring in Denmark’s group games against Holland and Japan.

Former Ajax manager Martin Jol, now at Fulham, compares him to Wesley Sneijder – a player that United tried to buy recently – and Rafael van der Vaart. Eriksen was named as Dutch Talent of the Year in May, elected by a panel chaired by Holland’s best player, Cruyff, who is sure he could be the next big talent to emerge from the Eredivisie.

He said: “This prize is just the start for him. It should prompt him to try to get the best out of his career. The talent is there, the recognition also, now it is up to the player.

“He is a typical Danish player. You can compare him with Brian and Michael Laudrup, and only time will tell if he can reach the same level.”

I believed this is the player that United need to sign to replace Paul Scholes. With all the remarkable credentials and testimonials impart on him Eriksen should dislodge others players in Ferguson shopping list. He is young and the price tag of  £20 million is much cheaper  and more worth it from Sneijder. He and Cleverley would be the top dogs of United.
