UCL Matchday 1: Benfica 1-1 United

Giggs Saves The Night

Maybe with Chelski game in his mind or he needs experienced players for Europe Sir  Alex changes his side against Benfica. The opener game for United in the UCL maybe not bring smile to the experience gaffer, same must be felt be 300 millions supporters all over the globe. Alas it does not carried the momentum of four wins in BPL where United had been scoring freely. It a different ball game in Europe.

However as usual Sir Alex will field more experience players for European game. He also opts for five midfielders with a lone striker. So last night in were Fletcher, Carrick to control the heart of midfield with Park Ji Sung and Valencia in the flank. While Giggs operated as link player for Rooney for the attack. Most of the players the game was their first for this season. But as true professional their performance still at the best. Maybe the link up and integration still lacking. They always perform magnificently especially Lindegaad and Giggs. The keeper seem as now better that De Gea although Sir Alex insist that Spaniard is still the man for Chelski game. And Giggsy still at it. Benfica goal is well crafted and scored. So is Giggs equaliser, a brilliant solo effort. He is not panic although Benfica players are quick to converge him, he sill manage to have glance at the goal then unleash  a pile driver from favourite left foot.

He could double United lead and gave the winner when letter he wriggle free from few defenders but only to see his shot miles away from the goal

A precious point from the toughest game (in the paper) in the group stage.
