A draw or win will secure United place in knock out stages although it was almost certain as second place winner in group stage. United ultimately wanted to avoid disaster in such in 2005 campaign where they were exited from Champion League after a 2-1 defeat in Lisbon. If the history repeated itself it was something that never cross in everybody mind.
It was a tricky trip. Basel again proved they are tough opponent. The Swiss Champion had showed they were not cowed by United in their first meeting at Old Trafford where United were lucky to escape with a draw. Now in front of their capacity crowd Basel surely try their best to scalp United.
After Hernandez and Berbatov were limped out due injuries, Ferguson surely opted Welbeck to partner Rooney at front. Phil Jones who scored a winner against Villa most probably started in the mid field with Carrick. Fletcher also another contender for this slot. Winger maybe Nani and Giggs as the Welsh wizard experience is much needed for this game. Evra-Vidic-Ferdinand- Fabio will be the back four with Dea Gea back between the post.
United the win and they must win big.
