Man City vs Man Utd: The Biggest Derby

Well I been busy lately. Really got no time for this blog.

Just penned down few lines. Hoping that Man Utd will emerge better that their neighbors. Again Man Utd had to do the hard way. After having eight points lead, this game should be the confirmation of the title. However as many saw it before, this game had to be the title decider.

Glory glory Man United

Benzoyl Peroxide: Toxic In The Flour?

My attention was caught by this issue when it been discussed at TV Alhijrah. I believed in the morning talk show. I was hurried to go out but managed to notice that this substance is dangerous but we all consumed it through the flour. The guess also mentioned that it was banned in Europe, Japan, China and most recent Indonesia. However he added that in Malaysia this substance is still allow to use in our flour. Interestingly the product that consisted Benzoyl Peroxide will use the line " mengandungi Benzoyl Peroxide yang dibenarkan.".

So Google to get more information. Basically Benzoyl Peroxide was used to whiten the flour. It also to cut short the oxidant process (correct me if I wrong). Natural aging where the flour oxidize with oxygen in the air naturally would take about  atleast 10 days. But by adding the Benzoyl Peroxide the process will only take two days. So for business aspect it is good.

So please read what I found here.

Why add Benzoyl peroxide?

In the past, Benzoyl peroxide was not added into the flour. The processed flour must be stored for 20 to 30 days. This allowed the air to oxidize beta-carotene in flour. Only then we can use it to make bread and other flour products. That is why flour gradually gets whiter as time passes.

By adding Benzoyl peroxide, manufacturer can reduce flour maturity period from 20-30 days to 2-3 days.

What is Benzoyl peroxide?

This substance is a type of food additive used to improve flour quality during factory processing. As it is not stable, Benzoyl peroxide will convert back to benzoyl and stain the flour. Since this substance is a strong oxidant, it is also used as chemical whitener. WHO suggests daily dosage of only 40mg/kg. And the European Union banned the use of Benzoyl peroxide in 1997.

Whitener’s harm to our body

1. Upon entering our body, the liver has to neutralize Benzoyl peroxide. This is the reason why this substance is bad for those with weak liver.

2. Benzoyl peroxide also contains some selenium and lead. That is why EU banned its use in 1997.

3. This additive will destroy nutrient content in flour. It oxidizes beta carotene, affect vitamin A content and causes the loss of vitamin E and K. It even has some influence on vitamin B1 and B2.

4. Long term consumption of flour and its products which contain Benzoyl peroxide may cause chronic intoxication. This is especially harmful for the liver.

5. Beijing Medical University and Xiehe Medical University’s joint publication in 1997 stated it may cause cancer.

Additives are found everywhere. We must be cautious of these additives to reduce risking our health.

Wigan 1-0 Man United

Yet Still Far

Wigan 1-0 Man United
Shaun Maloney 50'

I did not watch the game. Hmm lucky for me. If not it will spoil my day. But the defeats  should made the campaign more interesting. Man United been played catch up game for a while. Now it is Man City turn to chase the title. Very interesting right.

But any Man United fans would not like this result. The damaged by Shaun Richard Maloney ,who was born in Miri, Sarawak, had already done. Man United had to keep focus on the remaining games. But I still believed Man United could win the title with 11 points gap. Should Man United beat Man City then the noisy neighbour also defeated by Newcastle, Man United again proved that they are much better from the Blue half.

Man United 2-0 QPR

Man United Getting Closer

Man United 2-0 QPR
Rooney (p) 15'
Scholes 68'

Man United edging to the 20th title quest. The game was all Man United however the penalty and Shaun Derry red card had killed the game early. QPR skipper was harshly sent off. Firstly Ashley Young was obviously offside when he received a pass from Rooney. The referee assistant should see it clearly. If that not disgrace enough the second talking point should be. It was very minimal contact between Young and Derry. It was no red card offence.

Rooney step up to convert the penalty.

It was hard done by for QPR. Against Man United at Old Trafford it was tall order for QPR to beat the home side. QPR through their talismanic playmaker Adel Taraabt tried to push forward but with one man down it clearly Man United had the upper hand.

However it was quite surprising that Man United needed more than 50 minutes from the first goal to score second. And it was Paul Scholes goal to secure the all three points.

Shooting Rampage In US University

Gunman kills 7 in US uni rampage
Ex-student held after opening fire in class
3 April 2012

AT least seven people were killed and three injured yesterday after a crazed gunman opened fire at a US university. The shooter is said to have stood up in a class at the Christian college and blasted one victim at point blank range before firing off about 30 shots.

Cops described him as Asian with a heavy build and wearing khaki clothes.

He was caught at the car park of a shopping centre where his relatives work about two hours after the attack, which started at around 10.30am local time. One witness said he was cuffed and taken away in a car.

Police later identified the suspect as 43-year-old One L Goh. Pastor Jong Kim, who founded Oikos University in Oakland, California, a decade ago, said the killer had been a nursing student but was no longer enrolled.

Armed police, including SWAT teams, surrounded the site as officers smashed doors with hammers and stormed the building. Television images showed cops evacuating students.

Four bodies lay outside the school covered by sheets while rescue workers removed at least four more on stretchers.

One witness said last night: "He stood up in the class and just started firing.

"He shot one guy in the chest, shot another person, and just started firing like crazy." Local resident Angie Johnson, 52, saw a young woman leaving the building with "a hole in her arm the size of a coin", who was crying: "I've been shot."

Ms Johnson said the woman told her the killer was a man in her nursing class.

She added: "She said he looked crazy all the time — but they never knew how far he would go."
Police spokeswoman Johnna Watson last night said the situation remained "very tense". She added: "We are interviewing witnesses to try to determine if this person is known to them."

Stunned councillor Larry Reid spoke of the community's grief, saying: "There are seven families that are having to deal with this horrendous act."

Oikos is popular with Catholic Korean students. Its courses include bible studies, but is not accredited by the government.

Its website states: "Students are given a Christian education based on solid Christian doctrine.

"Our main goal is to foster spiritual Christian leaders."
